Complete Mechanical would like to remind our customers and neighbors of the importance of Furnace Service in Mill Creek. Each year, thousands of homes will catch fire from improperly maintained furnaces, space heaters, and other home heating devices.
Commissioner Randy Leonard, on his blog, lists heating as number four in a list of ten causes for home fires. While furnaces are less likely to cause problems (space heaters are considered a greater hazard), they do need proper maintenance – particularly if they run on gas. Areas that need to be cleaned yearly include exhaust vents, heating ducts and the furnace cavity itself. Thermostats, pilot lights, and thermocouples also need to be checked, and filters changed. If the furnace is gas, lines need to be checked to be sure that no leaks have developed. Keep all flammable items – from pillows and window curtains to easy chairs, cots and beds — at least three feet away from any heating device. If your system is all-electric of any sort, including solar or wind generators, get the wiring inspected. Commissioner Leonard’s blog lists electrical as the fifth cause for house fires. Timely service for all of these items will help prevent fires, keeping your home, family and neighbors safe. Don’t wait until the fire alarm goes off and smoke is filling your home to take care of this detail.
