Complete Mechanical, Inc., is ready to help you with your indoor air quality in Lake Stevens. In fact, you could say that indoor air quality is central to our business since HVAC stands for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. Recently, we ran across an article that has some interesting ideas.
According to a white paper from DriSteem, a manufacturer of humidifiers, an experiment involving four classrooms indicated that in the two rooms with humidifiers, winter spread of viruses was reduced by nearly ten percent, as compared to two classrooms that did not have humidifiers. Noting that the experiment was said to be from Mayo Clinic, we looked at their website for more information. We didn’t find any directly corroborating information, but we did locate suggestions for care of the “common cold.” Among the suggestions are the usual drink plenty of fluids and get some rest, but there was also a comment that cool air humidifiers might help ease congestion and coughing.
Too much humidity, of course, can cause discomfort. A balanced humidity isn’t just good for humans, it is also important for computers, books, and wood furnishings. Too much humidity and computers corrode, books mold, and wood warps. Too little, and computers can be damaged by static electricity, wood shrinks, and book pages become brittle. An ideal humidity is 40 to 50 percent relative humidity.
