It is never too early to think about heating your home this winter. Whether you want your current unit serviced or are looking to buy a new or different type of heating system, you should know a little about the different options for heating service in Seattle and surrounding communities.
Based on our unique temperature conditions in northwest Washington, here are three home heating systems that work well:
- Heat pumps with a central air source are perfect for mild climates like ours. They are extremely efficient and can be compared to a geothermal system (which costs a lot more). This heating system utilizes a series of ducts throughout the home, which makes the temperature more even in all areas.
- Ductless heat pumps are also energy-efficient and are quite reasonably priced. Many utility companies offer rebates for installation of a ductless system if you presently use heat sources like electric baseboards or wall heaters. If several air handlers are installed, it is possible to set different temperatures in varying rooms in the house.
- Depending on the model, a gas furnace can be efficient, too. The indoor temperature can be raised higher and more quickly than with other heating systems. Since there are exhaust gases that are expelled with a gas furnace (including carbon monoxide), the system must be vented outside. Regular maintenance and service are necessary to ensure that your gas heating system is functioning properly.
